Building a Telescope

By the world’s worst handyman

I don’t know what finally pushed me over the edge. Maybe it was those ads in Astronomy and Sky & Telescope. I was starting to feel inadequate with my binoculars.

Anyway, I built my own telescope. Although this may seem like a fairly common occurrence, it’s actually a fairly big deal in my case because I’m not at all a handyman type of guy. It takes me months, sometimes years, to finish a room renovation. You should hear my wife. Anyway, I built my own telescope, and this Web site is an account of the process.

All in all the project needed a few basic tools, a few easy to find parts, a little ingenuity, some planning and some perseverance. If you’ve ever wanted to build your own telescope, nothing will give you quite as much inspiration as watching a total clod like me do it. In any event, enjoy yourselves!
